My thesis examines the Iranian women's movement since the 1960s to current women's movements in Iran and exile communities, predominantly in North America and Europe. Through interviews with Iranian women in the exile communities who are still active in the Iranian women's movement, I will investigate the many different types of women's movements and activities that were going on during this time period in Iran. The purpose of conducting an oral history of the Iranian women's movement is to listen to the voices of one of the most globally suppressed groups of people, i.e. women. The goal of this thesis is to examine the nature of Iranian feminism over time: how it got its beginnings in political movements with the Iranian Left against the Shah, how it has changed since the Revolution of 1979, and how it has continued not only in feminist ideologies and theories that are written and discussed in academic settings, but also in daily acts of resistance by women who may not even realize they are participating in a form of feminism. Through interviews with women who are living in the exile community, this thesis will examine how these women view themselves in relation to both western ideologies of feminism and their own experiences with resistance as a form of feminism, and how that has changed over time since the Revolution. The final goal of my thesis is to answer the question of whether among Iranian women practicing daily acts of resistance there is a feminist movement and how that movement has grown out of other 20th century women's movements in Iran and other places.
I am looking for women who are willing to be interviewed about these topics, the interview would last about an hour and would be GREATLY appreciated by me.
Thanks.
